Vacation time is here, but soon it will be time to start thinking about getting your children ready for another year of school. Besides needing school supplies, kids always seem to have outgrown their clothes and shoes over the summer. So, the search begins for affordable brand name children's clothing and shoes.
Since most children tend to outgrow their clothes and shoes before they have worn them out, younger siblings or cousins often get hand-me-downs. That works for clothes, but children's shoes are less commonly shared. Everyone breaks in shoes differently because no two pairs of feet are exactly the same, nor are walking patterns, causing different wear patterns in the shoes. Wearing someone else's shoes can be painful and also can spread bacteria and fungi, such as athlete's foot.
Buying children's clothing and shoes at affordable prices is important to most family budgets. Buying brand name children's clothing and shoes at affordable prices is even better because then you have good quality clothing made by reputable manufacturers that are standing behind their products. Good quality clothing will last a lot longer than cheaper clothing, too.
Well-constructed clothing is important, especially for boys clothing. Boys tend to be rough on their clothing and their shoes because they seem to always be into something! Whether they are outside playing ball, climbing trees and fences, or digging in the dirt, boys clothing gets exceptionally dirty and takes a beating.
There are a lot of girls who pride themselves on getting into the same rough and dirty activities as boys, so girls clothing needs to be strong and well-made, too. Girls have different and varied needs, and they often like their clothing to have a more feminine appearance. Finding tough and durable, yet also cute clothing in pastel colors with ruffles and lace isn't easy, but there is actually such a thing as pink camouflage clothing! Buying brand name children's clothing doesn't have to be a hassle. One thing to remember is to read all care labels. Care labels not only reveal which methods to use for cleaning, drying and ironing, they also reveal what "not" to do. By reading care labels carefully, you can determine which clothing to buy and how to keep all your child's garments in great shape for much longer.
Wash Instructions
Whether buying girls clothing or boys clothing, be sure to wash according to the instructions. Some will state to "wash by hand," and you should adhere to this. These are materials that can be damaged by the harsh agitation process of a washing machine. Washing should be gentle with a process of soaking and then squeezing out the water by hand. Garments that state "machine wash" can withstand the wash/rinse cycles. These are typically more durable clothing as well and tend to last longer. Be sure to wash only using the temperature indicated (hot, warm or cold). Using warm or hot water on some garments will cause them to shrink or fade.
Some care labels will state to "wash separately" or "wash with like colors." This means the item may fade onto clothing that is of lighter color. If in doubt, wash the garment independent from other items for the first few washes to be on the safe side. Also, beware of white socks and underwear....these can fade too if accidentally thrown in the wash with new dark clothing.
Instructions for Drying..
If a label states to "tumble dry" then this means the item can be placed in the dryer. The temperature may also be indicated as low or medium heat. If no temperature is given, then you can dry at any temperature. Shrinkage can occur with some garments if dried on a high setting. If it's 100 percent cotton, rayon or another delicate material, dry on low or medium heat to be safe. Some items can only be placed in the dryer on fluff or air dry setting to freshen the item.
For labels that state "dry flat" you'll need to lay the garment flat on a horizontal surface while drying. These instructions are often included on sweater labels because sweaters will stretch out of shape if hung to dry. Other items can and should be hung out to dry.
